This Special Collection on Building and Façade Inspection to Prevent Failure features the importance of periodic building inspections to ensure extended service life of façades, especially in medium to high-rise buildings. Periodic inspections for building façades are gaining attention by many major municipalities as they mandate requirements for owners to conduct a more thorough investigation of the structural conditions of facades in taller buildings to safeguard the well-being of the occupants and the public. The papers presented in this collection emphasize the importance of façade inspection as part of an overall safety design of buildings and their enclosures.
